Raptor Center

I had always wanted to go.

Our Saturday outing, the Raptor Center.

She was not so sure of those big birds…but by the end so excited by their presence and what she’d learned.

On this trip she was even able to work on a new space for a future bald eagle.

Amazing; that’s the word for this blog post.

Surgery Storyboard

The day a success.

Told in pictures.

Prepping: A breakfast of popsicles and Jell-O (“Jelly” per her)

Waiting: A big girl bed with the toys, tv and books of choice

Recovering: Smiles with family and all energy fully in tact

Ear tubes.

ENT

A hearing test and exam today.

Checking the source of so much pain.

Found to need the tubes again.

November 13th.

Remembering how she sat on my lap for the tests and exams prior, I smile at this independence.

It was the night of the sleepover. Of course it was.

My phone was on vibrate. Of course it was.

Receiving the messages in the morning, I learned that the night was long.

A three-hour emergency room trip. Tinkerbell. A popsicle. A steroid shot and nebulizer.

She’s breathing better. I’m breathing better…imagine the gasp when I learned what I’d missed.

Thank you to Tracy and Mike.

Thank you to their neighbor for taking that 1:00 am call when I couldn’t be reached; she came right over to stay on the couch while the cousins were sleeping.

My ringer’s on. Abby is peacefully sleeping in the next room.

Useless Parts

Body parts ok to be removed?

Body parts seemingly useless?

The appendix is a narrow, muscular tube that attaches to the large intestine.

The gall bladder is a small organ that is known to store bile as well as aid in digestion.

Adenoids are masses of lymphoid tissue that are located at the very back of the nose.

The coccyx, more commonly known as the tailbone, is the last part of the human vertebrae.

Wisdom teeth are those that are located in the back of the mouth.

Tonsils are lymphoid tissues that are prone to becoming infected and swelling up.

Julie, no appendix, no coccyx, no wisdom teeth.

Grandma, no gall bladder.

Abby, no adenoids.

Tracy, no gall bladder, no wisdom teeth, no tonsils.

Alice…now…no adenoids, no tonsils.

Welcome to the world of losing your useless parts, Alice. You are so brave!

Blog 2 – Procedure

Blog #2 recaps what was most important about today, Abby’s ear tube procedure; the right tube would be replaced.

Dr Lind at Park Nicollet is her awesome pediatrician; we saw her last week for the Pre-Op. 75th percentile height. 75th percentile weight. Very healthy girl.

Abby with Dr Lind for Pre-Op Appointment

This morning was Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis at 8 am. Abby was a perfect angel for the entire day.

There was very little waiting. Each nurse, assistant, doctor and anesthesiologist came and went with efficiency and professionalism. It was such a caring staff.

We went to the operating room with Abby. Her sleepy mask went on. We waited in her hospital room while the procedure was under way.

Only 15 minutes later the doctor was back to report on the success.

Only 15 minutes later the recovery room nurse was back with the tired little girl.

Only 30 minutes later the little girl was wide awake, eating popsicles and drinking juice.

Only 60 minutes later we were home and eating lunch. We moved quickly into toys, books, walks and work (my work; a quick stop at Target needed).

Abby was such a happy, bubbly little girl this afternoon and evening. Full of spunk and full of smiles.

She’s perfect. I couldn’t ask for anything more.
